Guidelines for the Award of PSE Travel Bursaries


The Committee of the PSE makes available a number of Travel Bursaries to assist young researchers to attend PSE-sponsored congress.

The protocol for selecting and making these Bursaries is as follows:

 

1. ATTENDANCE.

The Awardee must attend the conference. The Bursary should not be paid in advance of the meeting. Normally, the Chairman of the PSE or their representative will give the Bursary to the successful candidates during the conference.

 

2. ELIGIBILITY.

A)        The Bursary can be given to a full-time student or to a post-doctoral research worker in their first postdoctoral position. All candidates must provide written evidence of their status in the form of a letter signed by their thesis supervisor or Head of Department.

B)        The Awardee must make a contribution to the conference either as a poster presentation or as an oral presentation.

C)        Preference will be given to those candidates who have not previously received a PSE Travel Bursary.

D)        Preference will be given to candidates who are already members of the PSE.

 

3. APPLICATION.

The candidate must register and pay the registration fees before the earlier deadline set by the organisers.

Candidates for a PSE Travel Bursary should contact the organiser of the meeting as early as possible. The Organiser will supply a set of these rules and an application form. The Candidate should returned to the Organiser:

 

(i) The completed application form

(ii) A curriculum vitæ (1 page)

(iii) An abstract of the proposed presentation (1 page maximum)

(iv) Proof of eligibility (letter, membership etc)

Items (i), (ii) and (iii) should be provided in electronic format.

 

4. SELECTION.

The Organiser will supply the list of applications and items 3 (i), (ii) and (iii) to the Chairman of the PSE. The Organiser should also provide a list of the candidates to whom they wish to make a Bursary with a brief justification (selected for oral presentation,

interesting subject….). The Chairman of the PSE will assess the selection in consultation with the Membership Secretary and the Vice-Chairmen.

 

5. REGULATION.

The Chairman will supply to the Membership Secretary a list of the proposed awardees. The Membership Secretary will verify whether the candidate is a member of the PSE and whether the candidate has previously been awarded a Bursary.

6. NOTIFICATION.

The Organiser undertakes to select and notify the candidates within four weeks of the closing date for applications. Candidates must inform the Organisers if they receive sufficient other funding to enable them to attend the meeting without PSE support. 

7. BURSARY.
The PSE undertakes to pay for each successful Awardee the following: A Bursary of up to 250 euros Three years membership of the PSE

(i) The completed registration form for the Conference

(ii) The appropriate registration fee

(iii) The completed Travel Bursary application form

 

(iv) A curriculum vitæ (1 page)

(v) An abstract of the proposed presentation (1 page maximum)

(vi) Proof of eligibility (letter indicating student/post-doctoral status)

Items (iii), (iv) and (v) should be provided in electronic format.
